I don’t know how to express myself
I’m feeling a profound, inexplicable sense of loss right now from the recent fire in Seoul. The 숭례문, better known as 남대문, or Great South Gate, burned down this week. It’s a structure that’s been in place since 1398 and was one of the few places left standing post-Japanese occupation, WWII, and the Korean War. If you’ve ever seen a picture of Seoul in a tourist guide or on Wikipedia, it’s the big gate with a pagoda rooftop that stands in a rotunda right in the midst of the city. It was also a common sight during the 2002 World Cup.
