what

I got an A in stem cell biology (my least favorite class) and a B+ and B- in political philosophy and philosophy of religion, respectively - my two favorites. I’m actually most afraid for my 100C grade because I couldn’t find the study questions and bullshitted everything muhaha.

I think I’ll drop Asian Philosophy because of $$ issues and time. I’ll still be busy doing something every day, but at least this way I’ll have some breathing room. Besides, I don’t need a class to learn about Buddhism, right? While this may be true, I’m humble enough to realize that I can never come to a good enough understanding of it on my own. And it just keeps bugging at me that Kjellberg is teaching it and he brings so much insight into things - insight you probably wouldn’t come to on your own. That and I want to redeem myself for the B- I got in Chinese Philosophy last summer. I missed one assignment worth 15% of my grade… could’ve gotten an A, which would be my first in philosophy, sigh.

It looks like I’ll have to take four classes in the summer as a result. I’m a little bit wary as to how that’s going to work since I’m no longer going to be around campus and I still have to work four shifts a week as a slotter.

BTW, I just saw a commercial for playtennisinla.com and it had a bunch of kids with British accents. LA, not London, assholes. But to make up for it I saw a pretty sweet Apple commercial that had Paul McCartney singing while playing a mandolin.

loledit: got a B in 100C

It was a glorious Thursday afternoon. I got my first car and it feels weird. I still have this mentality that I am transportation-less. I don’t have much to say about it except that I’m happy and blessed and that I hope to post pictures soon, given that I actually take them to begin with.

for the first time ever in life

i wanted to break down and cry because of everything happening around me.

that’s what you get though when you take four classes, progress from an intern to a staffer to a deputy, interview for jobs, maintain a loving relationship, and worry about your family all at once while taking finals and thinking about an impending graduation ceremony that’s largely meaningless because you won’t be done for another two terms. the consequence sucks, but i don’t regret doing any of the above.

fuck you life. i won’t fold, just as i’m rebuilding my life and getting everything back in order…

i need some food and some sleep.

Word-nerd wish list

  • Associated Press Stylebook
  • Chicago Manual of Style

And the big daddy:

  • Fowler’s Modern English Usage

Didn’t know this before, but Fowler was the one who coined the term “elegant variation,” which at the time was a pejorative expression, with ‘elegant’ meaning overly refined. I feel like this gives me further warrant to assert the philosophy major’s superiority. We shun elegant variation. For those uninformed, the term has now been renamed inelegant variation for clarity’s sake - fitting, considering it’s the same reason Fowler eschewed and criticized the device.

Anyway, I’m way behind on everything but I’d rather read about hypercorrection and disputed usages in English.
